PRODUCTION DETAILS
Thank you for your interest in auditioning for The Wedding Singer.
The show will be produced by Echo Youth Theatre and will be performed by cast of 13-18 year olds from across Norfolk.
To be performed at
The Maddermarket Theatre, Norwich
27th – 30th August 2025
The year is 1985. The place is New Jersey.
A wannabe rock star (aka a professional wedding singer) is stood up at the altar and falls out of love with love. The Wedding Singer takes us back to a time when hair was big, greed was good, collars were up and a wedding singer might just be the coolest guy in the room.
Based on the hit Adam Sandler movie, The Wedding Singer’s sparkling score does for the ’80s what Hairspray did for the ’60s. Just ‘say yes’ to one of the best rom-com musicals of all time.
It’s 1985, and rock star wannabe, Robbie Hart, is New Jersey’s favourite wedding singer. He’s the life of the party until his own fiancée leaves him at the altar. Devasted, Robbie makes every wedding as disastrous as his own. Enter Julia, a winsome waitress who wins his affection. Julia is about to be married to a Wall Street shark, and, unless Robbie can pull off the performance of a decade, the girl of his dreams will be gone forever.
The Wedding Singer features a large chorus with many featured roles for actors who sing, and dancers who act. If you play an instrument (guitar, bass, drums or keys) let us know!
The show is full of crazy funny antics and doesn’t take itself too seriously – pure comedy fun.

REHEARSAL DETAILS
Rehearsing at St Edmunds Church, Fishergate, Norwich, NR3 1SE
Rehearsals will start Mon 14 Jul 25
Music Rehearsals will be in July before the Summer Holidays, in preparation for the intensive rehearsal period in August.
Setting rehearsals are from Sun 17 Aug to Mon 25 Aug.
We have also asked you keep Sun 10 Aug free as we may add another music rehearsal, if this is required after the July sessions.
Please make sure you have checked the draft schedule, which is available in the Audition Information Pack on the link below.
This is a draft schedule and a detailed schedule will be provided following casting.
It is likely that all cast will be required at all rehearsals and, whilst we expect some level of absence due to pre-planned commitments, we do need good availability for this short rehearsal process.
During the audition process, you will be asked to let us know of any planned absences – please let us know all your commitments for July and August, so we can ensure you are going to be available if required.
We will accommodate reasonable absences that we know about in advance. Auditionees with excessive absences or who are unavailable for key dates may not be cast, but please book an audition if you are keen and discuss any issues you have with us.
Please be honest about any prior commitments. Frequent, undeclared absences could result in being removed from the show during the rehearsal process. If your planned absences have been agreed upon by the team in advance and you are cast in the show, your absence will not be an issue.
