PRODUCTION DETAILS

To be performed at

The Maddermarket Theatre, Norwich

25th – 28th OCTOBER 2023

TWELFTH NIGHT

William Shakespeare
Adapted by Kate Pantry

At EYT, we like to do Shakespeare differently.

This adaptation of Twelfth Night is heavily influenced by the American teen movies of the late 90s and early 2000s, but will still be performed using Shakespeare’s poetic language of the Elizabethan era.  For this production, Ilyria is a high school. Duke is the captain of the basketball team attempting to ask Olivia to the Senior Prom. Viola is the new girl who just wants to play basketball and the only way she can is to disguise herself as a boy and help Duke. The other characters all fit into our adapted time and place of an American high school in the early noughties.

The text has been cut down from the original version with some characters merged together to support our adaptation.

Echo Youth Theatre is looking for young performers of high school age (as at Sep 23) to perform this show.  There are 20 roles available, plus an ensemble of up to 10 extras.

Show Week will be Mon 23 Oct to Sat 28 Oct 23 and you need to be fully available that week

REHEARSAL DETAILS

Rehearsing at St Edmund Church Fishergate NR3 1SE

Rehearsals will start Sat 15th July 2023, but there will be no rehearsals in August.

Rehearsals will be:

Thursdays 6.30pm to 8.30pm

and

Saturdays 10am to 3pm.

We do not routinely call all cast to all rehearsals and you are only required to attend the rehearsals you are called for.  A full schedule is available in the audition pack – this is a draft schedule and subject to change, so we will be expecting good availability for all Thursdays and Saturdays.

AUDITION DETAILS

Auditions will be at St Edmund Church Fishergate NR3 1SE

Audition applications are now open.  Please make sure you have read all the audition information before applying.

During the audition process, you will be asked to let us know of any planned absences – please know your commitments for the period 15th Jul – 28th Oct 2023.

We will try to accommodate a reasonable level of absences that we know about in advance.  Auditionees with excessive absences or who are unavailable for key dates may not be cast, but please come and audition if you are keen to be in the show and discuss any availability issues you have with us.

Please be honest about any prior commitments.  Frequent, undeclared absences could result in being removed from the show during the rehearsal process.  If your planned absences have been agreed upon by the team in advance and you are cast in the show, your absence will not be an issue.

AUDITIONS

Prior to our auditions, we will be holding an information evening for members and potential members, plus parents.   There is no obligation and no need to have already booked an audition, just come along and see and hear what we are about.  We will talk about the show, roles, rehearsals and the audition process.

Please also come along to the information evening if you are interested in supporting the production team backstage or on the tech side and are not auditioning.
