Footloose The Musical brings us a high energy, heartfelt story of youth empowerment that celebrates the power of self-expression and the importance of standing up for what you believe in.
Based on the classic 1984 movie, with an infectious pop-rock score, featuring classic hits like “Holding Out for a Hero,” “Let’s Hear It for the Boy,” and the iconic title track “Footloose, Echo Youth Theatre are excited to bring this musical to the stage.
Ren McCormack, a teenager from Chicago moves to the small town of Bomont, where dancing and rock music have been banned by a conservative minister, Reverend Shaw Moore, following a tragic accident. Ren, feeling out of place and frustrated by the town’s strict rules, challenges the ban and rallies the local teens to fight for their right to dance. Along the way, he forms a connection with the reverend’s rebellious daughter, Ariel, and helps the town confront its grief and rediscover joy through music and movement.
Echo Youth Theatre is looking for strong musical theatre performers to audition for this show.
We are looking for a cast of 24-32 young people. The principal teenage character roles require actors who are also strong singers and excellent dancers. The adult character roles require actors who are also excellent singers. The ensemble will all be strong singers and a mix of gender and ages, with some ensemble roles available for non dancers.
Cast Members must be age 10 to 17 years of age as at 16th Aug 26.
REHEARSAL DETAILS
Rehearsing at St Edmund’s Church Fishergate NR3 1SE
There will be a few rehearsals in the week commencing 6th Jul 26, following auditions.
The main rehearsal period will be two weeks, commencing Mon 27th Jul 26. This is an intensive process and we require excellent availability for this two week period.
Rehearsals will be:
Monday to Friday 11am to 9pm
for the period
27 Jul to 7 Aug 26
We do not routinely call all cast to all rehearsals and you are only required to attend the rehearsals you are called for. A full schedule is available on the link below – this is a draft schedule and the detail of the calls will be added once audition bookings are open.
During the audition process, you will be asked to let us know of any planned absences – please know your commitments.
We will try to accommodate absences that we know about in advance. Auditionees with excessive absences or who are unavailable for key dates may not be cast, but please come and audition if you are keen to be in the show and discuss any issues you have with us.
Please be honest about any prior commitments. Frequent, undeclared absences could result in being removed from the show during the rehearsal process. If your planned absences have been agreed upon by the team in advance and you are cast in the show, your absence will not be an issue.

AUDITION DATES
INFORMATION EVENING
Mon 8th Jun 26 : 6.30 – 8pm
Prior to our auditions, we will be holding an information evening for potential auditionees, plus parents.
There is no obligation and no need to have already booked an audition, just come along and see and hear what we are about. We will talk about the show, roles, rehearsals and the audition process.
DANCE / MOVEMENT AUDITIONS
Wed 24 Jun 26
All auditionees must attend one of the Dance or Movement Workshops. There are two sessions to choose from:
6pm – 7.30pm – Movement Workshop
for those that do not consider themselves to be Dancers
7.30pm – 9pm – Dance Workshop
for dancers who want to be considered for one of the principal teenage roles, or dance ensemble.
AUDITION SESSIONS FOR ALL AUDITIONEES
Sun 28 Jun 26
You need to attend one of the four Audition sessions:
9am – 11.30am : Audition Session 1
12pm – 2.30pm : Audition Session 2
3pm – 5.30pm : Audition Session 3
6pm – 8.30pm : Audition Session 4
During this audition session, you will perform your audition song and character scenes. You will perform these in front of the panel and the other auditionees at your session.
You may be asked to work in pairs and groups and may be asked to read in for the other characters in the audition scenes.
Here at EYT we like to challenge auditionees, so be prepared to be asked to try out for other characters.
CALL-BACK AUDITIONS
We may need to see those we are considering for the principal roles again and, if required, call-backs will be on
Mon 29 Jun 7pm – 9pm

Full details on what to prepare for the auditions will be in the audition information folder – link below – once audition booking is open. Character notes are already in the folder.
In order to fully commit to the audition, you are expected to learn at least one of the audition pieces and be prepared to sight read the others.
Whilst you may only audition for one character, you will be considered for other roles.
ADMIN DETAILS
Cast members must be aged 10 – 17 to apply to audition for this show. We are unable to accept applications from anyone who is aged 18 or over as at 16th Aug 26.
The costs for cast are:
- The show fee for cast members will be £80 and this will be due for payment by 31 Jul 26. If this will cause any difficulties, please speak to us and we can discuss payments in instalments or financial support options from our sponsorship fund.
- All costumes are provided and cast members are not expected to provide or purchase costumes, other than under-garments and possibly footwear.
Agreement to photographic and video consent for internal use and external marketing is a prerequisite for casting.
