ALICE

in Wonderland  and Through The Looking Glass

PERFORMED AT THE MADDERMARKET THEATRE, NORWICH

26TH – 29TH OCTOBER 2022

Our second production of 2022 was Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass
by Lewis Carroll, adapted for the stage by Adrian Mitchell

Lewis Carroll’s timeless children’s stories Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There are magically brought to life in this adaptation by Adrian Mitchell, commissioned and first produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company.

The play was in two acts with Act 1 being Alice’s adventure’s in Wonderland and Act 2 being her adventures Through The Looking Glass – the script moves at a rapid pace and the myriad of characters and scenes, created a wonderful opportunity for Director, Charley Nicol, to create an ensemble piece of theatre, using physical theatre and puppetry to create the two world’s that Alice enters.

A strong cast of 30 brought the show to life and worked hard learning a wide range of theatre skills to create the show, supported by a strong youth production team, who created light, sound, props and puppets, as well as assisting with costumes.

This amateur production of “Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass (Mitchell)”
is presented by arrangement with Concord Theatricals Ltd. on behalf

… as an ensemble, the whole company was brilliant, and that’s what this whole show was about, in truth – the performance as a collective, and they really were a great unit.

Aside from the performance element, the show itself was fantastically produced by a number of the youth company too, with the highlights being the costumes, lighting and effects, which all added up to a real feast for the eyes…

One of my favourite shows at the Maddermarket. Amazing performances throughout, but especially from both Alice’s. Stars of the future !

The first half was a frankly bonkers, but concise adaptation of the wonderful original tale….

It was chaos at times, but such a well-organised chaos, and it all added up to a fantastically entertaining show, and everyone in the production should be so proud.
