Thank you for your interest in auditioning for the children’s roles in GYPSY.
Please read the production, rehearsal and audition information below.
PRODUCTION DETAILS

This is a Sound Ideas Theatre Company production, supported by Echo Youth Theatre, who providing the junior cast members required for the show.
To be performed at
Norwich Playhouse
10th – 14th September 2025
Echo Youth Theatre is looking for young performers aged 8 and over with a “playing age of 6-12” to audition for this show.
This means that auditionees must look 12 or under, but must be aged 8 or over as at 1st Sep 25.
There are 6 roles for children in the show:
Baby June
Louise
4 ensemble dancer/actors (3 boys and 1 girl) to play the News Boys and assorted children’s roles.
Show Week will be Sun 7th Sep to Sun 14th Sep 25
Cast will need to be fully available for that period.
There are 7 shows over 5 days and the children will perform in all shows. The show will not be double cast.
However, the children’s roles will only perform in Act 1 of the show, so it is not a large commitment, in terms of rehearsal and performance time.

During the audition process, you will be asked to let us know of any planned absences – please let us know your child’s commitments. The children may not be required for every Sunday rehearsal in August, but we would like reasonable availability.
We will accommodate absences that we know about in advance. However, auditionees with excessive absences or who are unavailable for key dates may not be cast, but please book an audition if your child is keen and discuss any issues you have with us.
Please be honest about any prior commitments. Frequent, undeclared absences could result in being removed from the show during the rehearsal process. If your child’s planned absences have been agreed upon by the team in advance and they are cast in the show, their absence will not be an issue.

AUDITION DATES
Those wishing to audition for the children’s roles are required to attend one of the following sessions:
Fri 6th Jun 25: 6pm – 8.30pm
Sat 7th Jun 25: 4.30pm – 7pm
During the audition session, there will be a group workshop and every auditionee will be required to sing a solo audition in front of the group.

ADMIN DETAILS
The minimum age for CHILDREN’S Cast members is 8 on 31st Aug 25.
The costs for cast are:
- There is no show fee for the children’s cast in this show.
- All costumes are provided and cast are not expected to provide or purchase costumes, other than under-garments.
- We may ask for a damage deposit for the script, which will be refunded when the script is returned undamaged – this will be confirmed on casting.
Agreement to photographic and video consent for internal use and external marketing is a pre-requisite for casting.
